Brazil – Lodges on Amazon

Amazon Lodges

Staying in one of the Brazilian’s Amazon jungle lodges is more than just accommodation – it is an experience. If you are going to tour the Amazon, you may as well spend the night in a place that gives you maximum appreciation for the world’s largest rain forest.

Listen to the gentle rustling of the trees, wake up to the chatter of monkeys or if you are not squeamish, go fishing for vociferous piranhas. The Brazilian rainforest lodges will usually have tours that provide a deeper glimpse into jungle life.

But jungle lodges are not identical. So there are certain things you should take into consideration before you decide to book one. Safety comes first – look for lodges that are not too far from a town with a large hospital. A rainforest lodge easily accessible to the Amazonas State capital, Manaus, would be ideal.

Another thing to look out for is mosquitoes. As an expansive water basin, it is perhaps not surprising that the Amazon is teeming with mosquitoes. However, not all parts are equally infested. Lodges along the Negro River usually have a lot less mosquitoes to contend with. Reason? The Negro River contains tannic acid – a mosquito breeding inhibitor.

Finally, think about what activities you are likely to enjoy the most. Nature walks and piranha fishing are a given in almost every lodge. But you might be interested in doing something that fewer lodgers offer – like life in the villages of forest communities.
