Canterbury

I took my 7 year old niece Rubie, my teenage brother Ryan and, of course, my bulldog Nelson to Canterbury in Kent to see what fun things we could get up to and it turns out there’s plenty!

  • Dane John Park is free to enter, situated on the borders of Canterbury Castle. Climbing up the hill to the monument like we did in the video gives you fantastic views over Canterbury city and the cathedral. Oh, and remember doggies must be kept on a lead!

  • There are various rowing and punting operators in Canterbury but we thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Canterbury Historic River Tours – It was £8.50 for adults, £5.50 for teenagers and £5 for under 12′s – Doggies go free!

Canterbury Historic River Tours are situated on the high street next to Ask restaurant – you can find them here.

  • Cycling around Canterbury is super fun and you can even cycle all the way up to Whitstable beach on the coast. Our cycle hire company – Kent Cycle Hire was super helpful and a really friendly family run business.

There are many various price ranges for cycle hire and you can find them all here.

  • Salt restaurant was absolutely superb – the food was all locally sourced, fresh and unbelievably tasty! The chalk board wall in the restaurant provides an ever changing menu that moves with the seasons and the chef & owner Emma was so friendly that we chatted for some time. I would highly recommend eating here when you’re in town!

More details from Salt’s website can be found here and a handy link to the restaurant’s location can be found here.

  • It goes without saying that the cathedral is a sight to behold and one of Canterbury’s most iconic landmarks. Stepping inside the cathedral you will be amazed by the stained glass windows and the jaw dropping vaulted ceilings – it’s a must when in town.

More details about Canterbury Cathedral can be found here.

As a family unit of doggy, 7 year old, 13 year old and the coolest older sister/auntie/(doggy)mum in town, I can confidently say that Canterbury has something for all the family and makes for a fantastic family day out – make sure you add it your list for the school holidays!
